I am notoriously bad at packing for anything. I always either underpack or overpack, and I was determined to get it right for my surgery.
As it were, I did overpack (slightly) but only in that it turned out I didn’t really need my robe, fuzzy socks or PJs since I had to stay in my gown and compression stockings from surgery for easy access to checks and to avoid clots.
In my bag, I brought:
- Toiletries like hand cream, night cream, and a lip mask to battle the dry air
- Toothbrush, toothpaste, aligners
- A claw clip to tie my hair back with
- Gatorade, protein shake, a granola bar, banana from home in case I got snacky
- Loose sweatpants and a ZIP UP hoodie (so I don’t need to raise my arms to get dressed) — I bought a size up in sweats so I’d be extra comfy
- C-Section Underwear & Bralette
- Socks to wear home
- PJs, robe, cozy socks, robe (didn’t use these)
- A warm and cozy blanket from home
I also brought my laptop, iPad (shoutout to my Kindle and Libby apps!), and my mobile phone with an extra-long cord. I definitely could have left one at home because I spent a lot of time sleeping post-op, though I did get to watch several episodes of Law & Order: SVU ( a true classic, shoutout Olivia Benson).

If I was doing it all again, I would have gotten and packed an eye mask for sleeping as it wasn’t as dark as I would have liked and brought more snacks that I could eat bit-by-bit (like little crackers or berries) but, I won’t be doing it all again because it’s DONE!
As I type these last few words, I’m awaiting my pick-up and looking quite forward to being home in my own bed. I feel much better than I expected I would but I’m sticking to my medication schedule closely all the same to ensure that I don’t let the pain get out of control. I’ve been up and walking lots, and even got my self dressed this morning!
In my next post, I’ll tell you all about how yesterday went in a (no-doubt long but) step-by-step recap!
